I've actually been writing about this (the process of how one learns, which may yield genius after enough successive iterations) in my quarterly zine, WHAT IT IS AND WHAT TO DO NEXT.

The next volume is coming out in April, and you can find the first three here: https://shop.shortwavepublishing.com/products/what-it-is-and-what-to-do-next-vol-1-3-bundle

That said, I'll schedule some time to write a Substack version of what I've learned so far. Is there a timeframe/deadline you're working towards, or would "mid-April" be good?

I really loved this writing prompt (and Erik's essays) - I wrote a short story as a response: https://claudiabefu.substack.com/p/welcome-to-gulmohur

I don’t know how you cultivate it, but I personally suspect many geniuses are autistic, specifically what they used to label as Asperger’s Syndrome/Aspies, and I’d love a discussion on allowing autistic people to thrive in a utopia. Andy Warhol, Temple Grandin, and Elon Musk come to mind.

Really cool project you're starting with Samuél. Seems like Erik's series has sparked something bigger than itself, at least in this corner of the web. Several other substacks have given it treatment, and I personally find the whole idea fascinating. Excited to read your correspondence!

I started reading Erik Hoel's articles about aristocratic tutoring and had already a couple of discussions with my husband about this. It's quite an interesting topic, I was especially interested in the tutoring techniques and how the tutors introduced specialisation early on, and focused on teaching only a handful of topics at a time. It seems more in synch with the way we function as people. Multitasking doesn't bring much. On the other hand, diving deep into a topic has helped me switch my field at work several times already. Very excited to read more.

That word, “genius,” puts me in mind of Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED tan on creative genius and her wonderful riff on the word. https://youtu.be/86x-u-tz0MA

Looking forward to this conversation & reading all of your community's thoughts here. Here's a copy-pasted etymology of the term "Genius" :

Late Middle English: from Latin, ‘attendant spirit present from one's birth, innate ability or inclination’, from the root of gignere ‘beget’.
